Behind the Entrepreneur: Haute Revolt Cosmetics

According to VegNews, the vegan beauty industry will be worth $21 billion by 2025 as consumers become increasingly aware of animal cruelty in the beauty industry. As beauty lovers are looking for chemical and cruelty-free alternatives, cosmetics companies are popping up on the scene, ready to deliver.

Insert Haute Revolt Cosmetics (HRC), a new black-owned cosmetics company offering a variety of handcrafted, vegan lip glazes that do more than make your lips pop. HRC launched in January and is a proud sponsor of Girls to Queens #CROWNED 2019 summer immersion experience. With every lip glaze purchase, a portion of the proceeds will aid in our annual entrepreneur workshop where girls will work on teams to complete a business plan and pitch their ideas.

We had the opportunity to sit down with the owner and certified makeup artist, Brit’ney “Polo” McTush, to learn more about her business and thoughts on entrepreneurship:

What is the story behind HRC?

"Be the change you want to see in the world."

To me this is more than a quote - it's a personal charge. As a certified makeup artist and someone from humble beginnings, HRC was created from my passion for sharing beauty in a world that desperately needs it. Through my brand, I hope to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Why vegan products?

While I’m exploring other collections, I decided to debut HRC with a vegan collection because what you put on your body can be just as important as what you put in your body. It was important for me to use quality ingredients that would help my clients feel good about their choice to shop with us.

Any advice for young entrepreneurs out there?

As encouragement to young entrepreneurs, I offer one of my favorite quotes, "What you seek is seeking you". Pursue your aspirations with intention and commitment. No matter how rough the road may be, you'll be better for the process. You'll be better for trying.
